Location

Cala dOr is a village that is situated on Mallorcas east coast. Mallorca, is known for its beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine, and stunning views. Cala dOr consists of several small resort areas, beaches, and coves, and is divided up into three different sections: Cala dOr town center, Cala Egos, and Cala Ferrera. While the area finds many tourists through the summer months, it is still les traveled than other areas in Mallorca, such as the city of Palma. The forty-five minute ride away from the Palma Airport makes the area accessible by taxi, bus, or car hire, and it is a wonderful place to go for a nice, low-key holiday.

A Beach Resort Town

Since Cala dOr is on the eastern coast of the island of Mallorca, tourists can appreciate the best weather and beach experiences on the island. While the five beaches that are located in Cala dOr are quite small, they are beautiful and great for relaxing on a warm day. The largest beach, Cala Gran beach, is only forty meters in width, but there is plenty of warm, fine sand and places to lie back, read a book, work on your tan, and enjoy the sunshine. Other beaches in the Cala dOr area include Cala Serena Beach, which is the beach farthest north, Cala Ferrera Beach, which has beautiful turquoise water that is great for snorkeling, Cala Esmerelda Beach, which is a small beach with a cove that keeps is sheltered from windy days, and Cala dOr Beach, which is next to the marina. While all of the beaches are a bit busy in the summer, the remainder of the year finds them to be a little more on the tame side. 

Marina and Water Sports

If you are interested in boating, jet skiing, and water sports, you might take a look at the activities that Cala dOr has to offer. For those who enjoy boating, you can check in at the areas upscale marina, which is located next to Cala dOr Beach. Here, you can take a boat tour, rent a boat to go out on the water, or sit at one of the harbour side restaurants and watch the water, which has a variety of yachts and boats going by.

The beautiful turquoise waters of the various beaches in Cala dOr make it wonderful for snorkeling and scuba diving! For those interested in scuba diving, there are several instructors and scuba diving companies on the coast, including Dive Center Robinson Club and Tauchschule Dive Fun Cala dOr. These diving centers allow you to experience the fun and excitement of scuba diving while under the guidance of trained professionals who can help you get the most out of your dive.

Restaurants and Food

Since a big part of any holiday is sampling dishes that you will remember for a lifetime, chances are, you are going to want to visit the best restaurants with the tastiest choices when on holiday in Cala dOr. There are many restaurants to choose from, from upscale dining areas to tiny little corner restaurants that are bursting with amazing Spanish cuisine and culture. Some restaurants that are worth trying out during your visit to Cala dOr include Restaurant Diferent, which has plenty of cocktails, wine choices, and food - tapas, such as prawns in garlic, pizzas, salads, and of paellas. Another popular restaurant is Port Petit, which is situated on the beautiful marina. While watching boats drift by, you can sample staples such as fish (the fried squid is popular), salads, and entrees such as rack of lamb.

For those who favor dessert, Cala dOr has several dessert shops that you can try out! One of these eateries is Cala dIce, which specializes in homemade ice cream and treats that are original and the perfect way to cool off during a summer holiday. Some of their frozen treats include ice cream in flavors such as candy bar flavors, cheesecake, almond, and lemon pie.

Family Entertainment

Because Cala dOr is a resort style town, there is plenty in the way of entertainment for the whole family. From scuba diving and snorkeling, to chartering a boat (or taking one of the many guided tours that the marina has to offer), to spending the day lounging in the sun at one of the five beautiful beaches, there is a lot on offer in Cala dOr. Visit the shopping areas in the village and pick up some souvenirs to take home, or take a trip to one of the spas, which have swimming pools, nail salons, and great places to get a massage and relax. Visit Mondrago National Park for some horseback riding, or take a trip through the beautiful Porto Cristo Caves, where you can see stunning caves while riding along on a boat on a guided tour.

While Cala dOr is a smaller town, it is known for the many things that there are to do on a holiday. Guided tours are available to explore parts of the island as well as the cove, and the marina offers stunning views that will leave you breathless. This beautiful spot on Mallorca is definitely worth a visit, and will make for a trip you will remember!
