El Toro, which translates to "The Bull," is a small resort town in the municipality of Calvia, in Majorca, Spain. Majorca which is an English pronunciation of the Spanish word Mallorca, is the largest of the Spanish Balearic Islands, has several popular resort towns scattered around the island. El Toro, which is just south of the larger Santa Ponsa, has several activities, restaurants, and stores nearby, but does not have as many of the amenities as the larger resorts. Because of this, El Toro tends to be a quieter, more laid back resort making it an ideal location for families, since it does not have nearly as much of the nightlife that attracts younger tourists.
El Toro Beach
The beach in El Toro is known as Platja es Toro or Cala Toro, but it does go by many other names too. It is a beautiful beach, and while it is only two hundred and fifty metres long, there always seems plenty of space for those who wish to visit. The beach, with its soft white sand and clear, shallow waters, is perfect for families with small children, as it is safer than bigger beaches with deep water and harsh waves. The gentleness of Platja es Toro is great for quality time with the family, making sand castles along the shore, playing in the sea, or simply soaking up the warm rays of the sun. The nearby port, Port Adriano, helps to protect the waters at the beach from getting too choppy or dangerous, also providing entertainment for those who enjoy yachting or boating activities, such as boat tours.
While beautiful and mild, the beach does lack the traditional water sports activities that make resort towns in Spain so popular. For these, you will have to take the short trip to Santa Ponsa, where you will find scuba diving, windsurfing, and snorkelling.
Places to Eat in El Toro
While not as large as some of the other resorts in Majorca, El Toro does have its share of delicious eateries and restaurants, including two with ocean views that are right off the beach. Depending on your tastes, El Toro offers both family oriented restaurants, which are casual and laid back, as well as upscale eateries that are more formal.
One great place to grab a bite in El Toro is Bistro 49, which offers delicious tapas, such as prawns with garlic and parsley, and squid Andalucian Style. Also featured at Bistro 49 are salads, meats, such as steaks, lamb, and chicken breasts, pastas, and homemade desserts, such as ice cream and lemon cheesecake, which is a scrumptious taste of summer!
Coast by East is a restaurant that is situated right on Port Adriano, complete with a full menu and breathtaking views of the port. The restaurant, which features tapas such as friend prawns and dip, as well as a selection of drinks at the bar, is a great place to relax, unwind, and watch the boats departing and docking at the port.
Harbour Grill is another restaurant that features European, Mediterranean cuisine, as well as steakhouse favourites. Harbour Grill is also situated on the marina, with a view overlooking the port and ocean. It is a great place to grab a bite to eat, and has a full bar, including wine and mixed drinks.
Things to Do in El Toro
While El Toro is a smaller resort, there are still plenty of things to entertain you and your family on holiday. Other than the beach, which is popular among those who visit El Toro, there are several shops and stores. While boutique shops are not popular in El Toro, there are plenty of smaller souvenir shops and a supermarket, which is great for those who need to pick up supplies or plan on cooking from their hotel room kitchen. For those interested in shopping, Santa Ponsa has many upscale and boutique shops to choose from, and is only a short distance away.
One of the most exciting activities in El Toro is the ability to charter a yacht enjoying quality time on the water. Yacht guided tours are available from Port Adriano to various other locations around the area, and if a tour is not your style, then you are free to charter your own yacht whilst enjoying the sunshine as you relax on your deck, sipping sangria with friends, or observing gregarious dolphins in the water.
For more family entertainment, visiting some of the other locations nearby, such as Santa Ponsa and Magaluf, will provide countless hours of entertainment. Wild West Water Park, Karting Magaluf, and other attractions, such as Golf Fantasia, are only a short trip away!
